17 Best Software Development Companies for Banking in the UK (2026)

Read 20 min

Banking software has to do more than process transactions and display account balances. It must protect sensitive data, connect with older systems, support changing regulations, and remain dependable when thousands of customers use it at once. Not every provider approaches banking in the same way. One may be strongest in core system modernisation, while another is a better fit for a mobile banking product, a lending platform, or a difficult integration with ageing infrastructure. The list below looks at 17 providers and, more importantly, the kinds of banking projects for which each one appears most relevant.

1. Itexus

Itexus provides banking software development services to organisations across the UK, working remotely from our US headquarters and European development offices. Our work covers mobile and online banking, digital account opening, payment infrastructure, digital wallets, card management, lending, transaction monitoring, and core banking integrations. We also develop customer dashboards and back-office tools for banks, credit unions, neobanks, BaaS providers, and fintech businesses.

We can stay with a banking project from its early discovery stage through architecture, interface design, engineering and release. After launch, our role may continue with maintenance, performance improvements and new functionality. We work with banking APIs, payment gateways, KYC and AML providers, credit bureaus, and older banking systems. Security and compliance are addressed while the system is being designed. That includes decisions around access rights, audit trails, documentation and the handling of sensitive financial data not a last-minute review just before release.

Key Highlights:

  • Provides banking software development services to UK organisations
  • Experience with regulated and integration-heavy financial products
  • Supports new development and gradual legacy system modernisation
  • Covers web, mobile, backend, cloud, and data engineering
  • Builds security and compliance requirements into the delivery process

Services:

  • Software development for banking
  • Core banking integration and modernisation
  • Digital onboarding and KYC automation
  • Payment and digital wallet development
  • Card issuing and management software

2. ELEKS

ELEKS develops custom banking software for financial institutions that need to update internal operations or introduce new digital services. Their work includes online and mobile banking platforms, core banking systems, loan origination and servicing software, EMV solutions, and software for ATM networks. They also build customer portals that allow users to manage accounts, transfer funds, pay bills, and access other banking functions remotely.

ELEKS usually starts by examining the bank’s existing processes and technical constraints. The findings then shape the architecture and development work, including data engineering, security testing and deployment. This approach is suitable for banking projects where the software must fit established processes, connect with existing infrastructure, and protect financial and customer information.

Key Highlights:

  • Focuses on custom software for banks and financial organisations
  • Works with customer-facing and internal banking systems
  • Combines software engineering with data, AI, and cybersecurity skills

One area of their financial work is paperless lending, where separate loan departments can use shared workflows for document processing and approvals. 17. Scott Logic

Scott Logic is a UK software consultancy with a particular focus on financial services and regulated organisations. Their retail banking work centres on modernising technology infrastructure while maintaining security, compliance, and stable customer services. They have also worked on banking platforms, mobile applications, cloud adoption, and changes intended to improve scalability.

Scott Logic does not position the same product as an answer to every banking problem. Its work begins with the systems, risks and operational limits already present inside the organisation. Their teams can advise on technology strategy, design customer journeys, build software, improve cloud architecture, and connect data across platforms. They also help banks assess operational resilience and plan changes in stages, which is useful where older systems cannot simply be replaced at once.

Conclusion

Banking software projects tend to become complicated in places that are easy to underestimate. A customer portal may look straightforward at first, but the work behind it can involve legacy databases, payment systems, identity checks, audit records, security controls, and strict rules around customer data. No single company on the list covers this work in quite the same way. Some are set up to deliver a complete banking platform; others make more sense for a mobile product, a difficult integration, a staged modernisation programme or an internal team that simply needs more engineering capacity.

A long list of services is not especially helpful if the provider has never dealt with the kind of system a bank needs to change. Banks should look closely at relevant project experience, security practices, regulatory knowledge, integration skills, and the way each company handles software after launch. A clear discovery stage is useful here. It gives both sides a chance to uncover technical limits and compliance risks before they become expensive problems halfway through development.
